Ground-based training? The term ground-based training (GBT) refers to any type of flight instruction that does not include actual flight. In addition to standard ground school curricula, Wings-on-Wheels uses a combination of books, videos, software, and a PC-based Aircraft Training Device (ATD). (Some of these instructional materials are available for students to borrow.)
How can you use GBT? You can prep for knowledge (written) exams, or a Biennial Flight Review, prepare for an Instrument Competency Check, or use a GBT program to master a particular area of difficulty. |
WOW GBT software In addition to an extensive selection of aviation and flight-training books and videos, Wings-on-Wheels is in the process of acquiring training software, which is installed on a laptop PC, making these materials conveniently available to WOW students.
We use an Elite PC-ATD system extensively for training; this is a sophisticated flight simulator, complete with yoke, rudder pedals, radio stack, student and instructor stations. Other training software currently includes GPS training, communications training, aircraft systems, and software to help you prep for various knowledge tests (that's "written" tests, for those of us who didn't grow up with computers). |
Benefits of GBT While ground-based training does not take the place of actual flying, it plays a crucial part in your overall training; not only can GBT improve your comfort factor when you do take to the air, studies have shown that GBT can reduce the number of hours of flight time required to complete your certificate or rating. And that means cost savings for you. And of course, you can “fly” with GBT no matter what the weather is doing!
More efficient use of your training time, cost-effective, not dependent on weather, customized for you — why wait? Contact Wings on Wheels and get started today! |
